About the position

The Associate Urgent Care Receptionist/Medical Assistant at Optum Urgent Care College Point plays a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and supporting the healthcare team. This position involves managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and assisting with clinical tasks, all while adhering to organizational protocols and Lean processes. The role is integral to ensuring a smooth operation within the urgent care setting, contributing to the overall mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and conduct check-in process, collecting or verifying demographic information.
  • Load or update insurance information as needed.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously for all specialties.
  • Confirm and schedule appointments, verifying eligibility and authorization.
  • Scan insurance card(s) and collect co-payments and outstanding balances.
  • Post payments received in the practice management system and provide system-generated receipts.
  • Send patient records to primary care physician.
  • Take vital signs, perform EKGs, and assist providers with patient care.
  • Prepare exam rooms for patients and document patient encounters in Epic.
  • Perform lab testing and quality assurance, preparing and tracking specimens sent to lab.
  • Schedule appointments using approved scheduling guidelines.
  • Monitor daily reminder call logs and conduct outreach to patients requiring appointments.
  • Assist coworkers as needed to assure smooth office operation and delivery of excellent service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
  • 1+ years of customer service or healthcare-related experience.
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to be cross-trained as a medical assistant or have certification as a medical assistant.
  • Ability to cover other offices if needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with an electronic health record (EPIC).
  • Knowledge of medical terms.
  • One plus years of experience working in a medical front office position.
