About the position

Under the direct supervision of the Physician, assist in providing professional nursing care in the urgent care setting. The RN must correctly identify patients by asking their name and date of birth. RN duties include triage, assessment, point of care testing, all physician-ordered treatments, discharge, and patient education. The RN will assess and treat patients in a fast-paced, high-volume urgent care setting, obtain and document all current patient medication and allergies within the EMR, and assist providers in urgent care procedures. This includes implementing orders for EKGs, dressing changes, suture removal, ear lavages, splinting, injections, IV insertion, and IV infusions. The RN will initiate outpatient infusions as ordered, establish and maintain IV access, or access PICC lines as indicated, and monitor patients' vital signs per protocol, assessing for any adverse reactions during and post-infusion. Additionally, the RN will answer general patient questions over the telephone and appropriately triage patients to the appropriate place for care. Maintaining and stocking all rooms, IV carts, and other supplies as needed to meet the needs of the department is also required, along with checking all equipment to ensure proper working order. The RN must maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of information at all times during their urgent care visit. They will assess personal and learning developmental needs and act as a resource person for other staff and patients, participating in staff meetings and other activities that promote the growth and development of nursing and patient care. The RN will assist with secretarial/clerical duties as needed, including greeting and registering patients, filing, answering phones, and faxing documents. Other work duties may be requested or directed, and the RN is expected to work cooperatively with co-workers and communicate politely with department employees, patients, and visitors. Requirements

  • Current RN license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • IV insertion/therapy skills required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Acute care experience required, with preference given to those with past Emergency Department experience.
