About the position

Under the direct supervision of the Physician, assist in providing professional nursing care in the urgent care setting. The RN must correctly identify patients by asking for their name and date of birth. RN duties include triage, assessment, point of care testing, all physician-ordered treatments, discharge, and patient education. The role involves assessing and treating patients in a fast-paced, high-volume urgent care setting, obtaining and documenting all current patient medications and allergies within the EMR, and assisting providers in urgent care procedures. This includes implementing orders for EKGs, dressing changes, suture removal, ear lavages, splinting, injections, IV insertion, and IV infusions. The RN will also initiate outpatient infusions as ordered, establish and maintain IV access, or access PICC lines as indicated, and monitor patients' vital signs per protocol, assessing for any adverse reactions during and post-infusion.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing professional nursing care in the urgent care setting under the supervision of a Physician.

  • Perform triage, assessment, point of care testing, and physician-ordered treatments.
  • Document all current patient medications and allergies within the EMR.
  • Assist providers in urgent care procedures such as EKGs, dressing changes, suture removal, ear lavages, splinting, injections, IV insertion, and IV infusions.
  • Initiate outpatient infusions as ordered and maintain IV access or access PICC lines as indicated.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and assess for adverse reactions during and post-infusion.
  • Answer general patient questions over the telephone and triage patients appropriately.
  • Maintain and stock all rooms, IV carts, and supplies as needed.
  • Check all equipment to ensure proper working order.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality during their urgent care visit.
  • Assess personal and learning developmental needs and act as a resource for staff and patients.
  • Participate in staff meetings and activities that promote nursing and patient care development.
  • Assist with secretarial/clerical duties as needed, including greeting and registering patients, filing, answering phones, and faxing documents.
  • Perform other work duties as requested and work cooperatively with co-workers.

Requirements

  • Current RN license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • IV insertion/therapy skills required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Acute care experience required, with preference given to those with past Emergency Department experience.
