About the position

Our client is urgently seeking a highly skilled DB2 UDB DBA for a long-term project located in Denver, CO. This position requires a strong background in database administration, specifically with DB2 UDB, and a minimum of 6 to 15 years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field in Digital Information Technology. The role involves significant responsibilities including database upgrades from versions 10.5 to 11.5 and 11.1 to 11.5, as well as installation and patch management of DB2 UDB and IBM MQ software. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in IBM MQ replication, HADR configuration, and troubleshooting, along with proficiency in database diagnostics tools such as DMC. Additionally, the DBA will be responsible for backup, restore, and recovery strategies, performance tuning, query optimization, and the creation and management of database objects. The position also requires experience in replication monitoring, user authorization management, and capacity planning. Strong communication skills are essential, as the DBA will need to effectively interact with both internal and external customers, addressing their needs and concerns with a high level of detail and focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform database upgrades from DB2 UDB versions 10.5 to 11.5 and 11.1 to 11.5.
  • Administer DB2 UDB databases with a focus on IBM MQ replication.
  • Install DB2 UDB and manage MQ software upgrades and patches.
  • Configure and troubleshoot HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery).
  • Utilize database diagnostics tools for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Implement backup, restore, and recovery strategies for databases.
  • Conduct performance tuning and query optimization, including index creation and partition management.
  • Create and manage database objects and logical/physical storage configurations.
  • Monitor replication processes and manage user/group authorizations.
  • Plan for database capacity and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Digital Information Technology related field.
  • 6 to 15 years of experience in DB2 UDB database administration.
  • Strong working knowledge of database upgrades and patch management.
  • Experience with IBM MQ replication and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of HADR configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with database diagnostics tools, including DMC.
  • Experience in backup, restore, and recovery strategies.
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, query optimization, and index management.
  • Ability to create DB objects and manage storage configurations.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes related to problem, change, and incident management.
