About the position

The Urology Assistant position at Yale New Haven Health is a per diem role focused on supporting urologic procedures and ensuring a sterile environment. The assistant will work under the direction of registered nurses and physicians, performing various tasks related to patient care and equipment management in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs shaving, clipping and prepping as required under the direction of a registered nurse.
• Demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis and disinfection in the care of supplies, instruments, and the environment.
• Identifies and applies principles of sterile technique under supervision, assisting in procedures.
• Handles all equipment safely and ensures it is in working order for procedures.
• Assists in room turnover and setup for procedures, including preparation of items for sterilization.
• Stores and rotates instrument trays, opening sterile supplies using sterile technique.
• Prepares procedural fields with sterile supplies and preps patients for urologic procedures.
• Ensures patient safety by exercising aseptic techniques and monitoring for hazards.
• Ascertains proper identification of specimens and adheres to standard precaution guidelines.
• Participates in Universal Protocol for patient safety.
• Exhibits time management skills and flexibility in daily activities.
• Performs all other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the unit.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or Equivalent
• Outpatient Urology experience preferred
• EPIC Ambulatory experience preferred
• Two years direct patient contact preferred
• Certified Nurses Assistant, Medical Assistant or equivalent
• BLS certification
• Ability to assist in urologic procedures and maintain sterility
• Effective communication skills with patients, staff, and MDs
