About the position

The Urology Communications/Web Specialist is a pivotal role within the Department of Urology, focusing on the design, creation, and implementation of a comprehensive communications plan that emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion. This position is responsible for ensuring consistent and effective messaging and branding across various platforms, collaborating closely with the Administrative Director to curate stories, photos, and content that resonate with the department's mission. The Communications Coordinator will generate original content for both internal and external communications, working alongside the Medical School's communications team and development staff to promote special events and targeted communications to alumni. In this role, the Communications Coordinator will engage in a variety of tasks, including writing and editing content for social media, websites, and multimedia platforms, as well as developing branded materials such as brochures, newsletters, and research summaries. The position requires a keen ability to translate complex information into clear, concise language that is accessible to diverse audiences. The Communications Coordinator will also be responsible for managing the department's website, maintaining internal and external marketing communications, and utilizing tools like Salesforce Marketing Cloud to disseminate information effectively. The role encompasses content creation, communications and marketing, content management, and special projects, with a significant focus on enhancing the department's reputation and providing accurate information about its educational, research, and outreach efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong graphic design skills and a thorough understanding of branding and messaging guidelines, ensuring that all communications engage stakeholders and promote the department's initiatives effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Design, create, and implement a comprehensive communications plan for the Department of Urology.
  • Collaborate with the Administrative Director to determine content focus and stories for communications efforts.
  • Generate original content for internal and external communications, including newsletters and social media.
  • Write and edit content for various platforms, ensuring clarity and conciseness.
  • Develop branded materials such as brochures, newsletters, and posters.
  • Maintain and develop the department's website, ensuring up-to-date information.
  • Manage internal and external marketing communications across multiple platforms.
  • Utilize Salesforce Marketing Cloud for crafting and disseminating communications.
  • Create and maintain marketing collateral using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Organize conference and event presence to support marketing initiatives.
  • Maintain departmental listservs and provide updates to leadership.
  • Manage photographs, digital media, and awards as needed.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree plus at least two years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience totaling at least six years.
  • Experience with web content management systems, such as Drupal.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Familiarity with AP and Chicago style guides.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
