About the position

The US Aerospace & Defense Correspondent (Level 1 Journalist) at Reuters is responsible for leading investigative projects and collaborating with beat reporters to produce exclusive stories related to the aerospace and defense sectors. This role focuses on significant developments in the industry, including the new space race, military industrial complex changes, and the impact of global conflicts on defense. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in journalism, particularly in aerospace and defense, and will be expected to deliver impactful and groundbreaking stories.

Responsibilities

  • Lead investigative projects and collaborate with beat reporters to produce exclusive stories.
  • Expose new details about secretive programs run by major companies like SpaceX, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon.
  • Prioritize coverage based on developments and work with the global editor to identify impactful journalism areas.
  • Source, research, and execute thorough reporting on investigative stories.
  • Write engaging pitches that meet enterprise editors' expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the scope and depth of reporting.
  • Work with visuals colleagues to maximize the use of graphics, pictures, and video.
  • Discuss stories in team meetings and lead calls with reporters on collaborative projects.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience as a business journalist.
  • Proven track record of producing impactful and ambitious stories.
  • Experience covering U.S. aerospace and defense sectors.
  • Exceptional writing and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in small groups as projects dictate.
