About the position

The Payroll Reporting and Tax Manager at Palantir plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of all payroll-related matters. This includes the reconciliation, filing, and reporting of Federal, State, and Local taxes on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The position requires a deep understanding of in-house US payroll and accounting best practices to optimize program workflows and ensure statutory compliance. The manager will work cross-functionally to maintain accurate payroll records, review related inputs, resolve discrepancies, and partner with corporate accounting and mobility tax teams. In this role, the manager will be responsible for reconciling payroll tax reporting to ensure accurate deposits and filings, which includes daily, semi-monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings. The manager will also lead annual and ad-hoc audits related to payroll taxes, equity compensation, fringe/benefit tax, and statutory audits. Additionally, the manager will research and resolve complex tax issues with various Federal, State, and Local tax agencies and serve as the point of contact for employee inquiries and ad hoc projects. To ensure operational efficiency and compliance, the manager will document and continuously improve procedures and workflows, including establishing adequate internal controls. Responsibilities

  • Leverage deep understanding of in-house US payroll and accounting best practices to optimize program workflows and ensure statutory compliance.
  • Manage the team and work cross-functionally to maintain accurate payroll records, including reviewing related inputs and resolving discrepancies.
  • Partner with corporate accounting and mobility tax teams to ensure accurate payroll records.
  • Reconcile payroll tax reporting to ensure accurate deposits and filings, including daily, semi-monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings.
  • Lead annual and ad-hoc audits related to payroll taxes, equity compensation, fringe/benefit tax, and statutory audits.
  • Research and resolve complex tax issues with various Federal, State, and Local tax agencies.
  • Serve as the point of contact for employee inquiries and ad hoc projects.
  • Document and continuously improve procedures and workflows to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' in-house US payroll and tax experience including multi-state, multi-jurisdiction, complex sourcing, and high volume.
  • Deep knowledge of full-cycle US payroll and understanding of payroll and accounting standard processes.
  • In-depth understanding of equity-related tax reporting (NSO, ISO, RSU, ESPP).
  • Experience with Workday, Ceridian Tax, Safeguard, and/or other external payroll service providers is a plus.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills.
