About the position

The US Trade Data Analyst will support the U.S. Trade Representative's (USTR) monitoring and enforcement functions by providing comprehensive trade and data analysis. This role involves examining imports, exports, investments, production, pricing, and corporate data to assist in trade enforcement and negotiations across various sectors and regions. The position requires a blend of quantitative and qualitative analysis, with a strong emphasis on data identification and research.

Responsibilities

  • Support USTR's monitoring and enforcement function through data analysis.
  • Analyze trade data related to imports, exports, investment, production, price, and corporate data.
  • Conduct electronic and manual research for identified subject matter.
  • Draft memoranda and reports summarizing and analyzing research results.
  • Assist in litigation processes as needed.
  • Fact and citation check for accuracy in reports and memoranda.
  • Prepare evidence for enforcement-related negotiations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a data analyst with advanced data analytics tools.
  • Degree in economics, political science, finance, international relations, data science, or a related field.
  • Ability to perform 50% quantitative and 50% qualitative analyses.
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel and familiarity with programming languages such as Stata or Python.
  • Experience with visualization software such as Tableau.
  • High attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks under deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with global trade data, including harmonized tariff system data.
  • Familiarity with USTR-procured data sources and subscriptions.
