About the position

The Senior Data Scientist (Computer Vision Engineer) at Walmart is responsible for designing, training, and deploying advanced AI models to enhance in-store customer experiences. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to leverage emerging technologies and improve customer interactions for over 240 million Walmart customers. The position requires a strong background in computer vision and machine learning, with a focus on developing algorithms that enhance customer-facing applications.

Responsibilities

  • Develop computer vision algorithms and machine learning models to enhance customer-facing applications.
  • Research, develop, and analyze computer vision algorithms related to object detection, tracking, product identification, and scene understanding.
  • Ensure model robustness, generalization, accuracy, testability, and efficiency.
  • Write product or system development code.
  • Collaborate within projects with a mixed team of software engineers and computer vision engineers.

Requirements

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Vision, or a relevant technical field, or an MS with 2 years of industry experience.
  • Experience in machine learning, deep learning, and computer vision.
  • Demonstrated software engineering experience through internships, work experience, or contributions to open-source projects.
  • Experience with research and development of computer vision techniques such as object detection and tracking.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Econometrics.
  • Successful completion of assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
  • Experience using open-source frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Knowledge of implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies.
