About the position

The Senior Manager - Sustainability at Walmart is responsible for developing and implementing sustainability strategies that align with the company's mission to help people save money and live better. This role involves collaborating with various teams to improve product sustainability, manage relationships with certification bodies, and influence the development of more sustainable products across the organization. The position requires a strong focus on transparency, compliance, and innovation in sustainability practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop guidelines and transparent processes to approve product sustainability claims according to industry certifications and regulations.
• Support cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for reducing waste and using recycled materials.
• Manage relationships with certification bodies and third-party labs to ensure compliance with sustainability standards.
• Guide suppliers in understanding and achieving Walmart's sustainability goals.
• Collaborate with packaging, technical, and product development teams to leverage sustainable materials.
• Set sustainability goals and track performance for supported business units.
• Promote traceability, transparency, and compliance with suppliers and internal teams.
• Participate in industry committees and discussions to keep Walmart's sustainability initiatives relevant.
• Monitor commodity costs and market trends to propose sustainable options.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in sustainability initiatives, project management, or related fields.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word).
