About the position

The Engineering Manager will lead initiatives aimed at enhancing in-store customer experiences for Walmart's vast customer base. This role focuses on leveraging emerging technologies, particularly in computer vision and machine learning, to address in-store shrink behaviors. The position requires collaboration across various teams to develop innovative strategies and solutions that align with evolving customer expectations.

Responsibilities

• Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and ensuring diversity awareness.
• Develops innovation strategies, processes, and best practices by leading internal technical teams; partnering with cross-functional teams across the business; developing assessments of key opportunities; documenting project scopes; developing long-range plans and project timelines; communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives within the organization; and resolving technology differences across teams through informed discussions.
• Leads agile teams for medium-to-large scale, complex, cross-functional projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; gathering requested information; communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborating with project team and cross-functional teams; ensuring on-time delivery and hand-offs; and providing leadership to the project team.
• Leads the work of six to ten engineers for assigned engineering projects by providing pertinent documents, direction, and examples; identifying short- and long-term solutions and timeline; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architectural patterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
• Supports business objectives by collaborating with business partners to identify opportunities; addressing high-priority initiatives; identifying short- and long-term solutions; and leading cross-functional partnership.
• Leads the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high-level design by partnering with product management, Web Operations, project management, business and user experience teams; obtaining cross-function approvals; driving proof-of-concept; and implementing prototypes to validate ideas.

Requirements

• Understanding of Architecture and Design patterns
• Machine Learning Engineer background, working with ML Ops, infrastructure, and distributed systems or Software Engineering Managers, building scalable and impactful ML Platforms
• Extensive experience in using ML solutions such as AWS, GCP, and Azure cloud.
• 3+ years of people management experience in multi-disciplinary global teams at the intersection of tech and product, including building performing teams and organization.
• Experience managing joint hardware-software development and associated rapid prototyping projects.
• A true passion about Technology.

• A desire to set technical direction.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
• Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
