About the position

The Usability & Human Factors Engineer will be part of the global SRC Patient Interface R&D team at Philips, focusing on creating safe and intuitive solutions for a range of medical devices. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance user and patient experiences, conducting usability evaluations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The position will initially be based in Pittsburgh, PA, and will transition to a new site in the greater Pittsburgh area by the end of the year.

Responsibilities

  • Work with global cross-functional teams to create an excellent user and patient experience for SRC wearable devices.
  • Conduct usability evaluations (formative and summative), expert reviews, and heuristics evaluations using established usability practices and methods.
  • Create, manage, and execute usability evaluation plans in cooperation with internal stakeholders and global functions.
  • Secure high-quality usability by investigating cognitive, physical, and situational contexts in which a product is used.
  • Create use scenarios and conduct usability risk management to capture potential use errors and propose UI mitigations.
  • Create Usability engineering files (HFE report) to demonstrate successful completion of usability activities.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in usability/human factors engineering.
  • Knowledge of and experience in conducting usability engineering activities (Formative & Summative usability studies).
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines e.g. FDA, IEC62366-1, ISO 9241-11 (2018).
  • Experience leading teams in establishing and enhancing best practices and processes in areas of expertise.
  • Knowledge of/experience in requirements management, including usability and design risk management (like Usability FMEA).
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Bachelor's degree in usability/human factors engineering, or equivalent area of study, or equivalent work-related experience.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong project management skills (planning, monitoring, escalation, etc.).

  • Expertise in/knowledge of latest technology advancements in the domain and field of medical usability.
