About the position

The User Interface (UI/UX) Software Developer will play a crucial role in supporting the Universal Curriculum and Assessment Tool (UCAT) web application at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. This position focuses on UI/UX development, requiring the candidate to design and modify components for UCAT, ensuring a transition from traditional content to an interactive digital curriculum. The role demands collaboration with government stakeholders and adherence to DoD policies regarding data privacy and security.

Responsibilities

• Support UI/UX development for the UCAT web application.
• Design and modify existing components for UCAT applications.
• Coordinate with government stakeholders to identify subsystems and integration needs.
• Resolve performance optimization issues primarily on the front end.
• Maintain and program code for UCAT and its associated libraries and components.
• Ensure compliance with DoD Privacy Programs regarding PII data.
• Participate in all phases of the development lifecycle, including Agile Scrum methodologies.
• Produce wireframe designs, storyboards, and sketches adhering to government specifications.
• Manage and track requirements, change requests, and defects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and at least 3 years of software support and development experience, or an Associate of Arts Degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
• Proficient in JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, and CSS.
• Familiarity with Full Stack development (front-end, server, and database code).
• Ability to produce solid wireframe designs, storyboards, and sketches.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass a background check.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience supporting foreign language web applications.
• Understanding of form-based templates for developing foreign language content.
• Familiarity with modern JavaScript libraries and frameworks.
• 2 years of experience in an educational setting.
