About the position

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in modernizing a legacy web-based application by using cutting edge cloud technologies and modern user interface (UI) libraries and frameworks. As a UI/UX Designer, you will blend user experience (UX) skills and front-end development to modernize existing User Interface screens, ensuring that the new screens are usable, stable, and attractive to the end user. This includes aspects of branding, design, usability, and function. You will apply design thinking methodology to reimagine complex business workflows, developing UI and business process designs that enhance user interaction with the system. In this role, you will study and evaluate how users interact with the system, focusing on ease of use, perception of value, utility, and efficiency in performing tasks. You will lead user meetings to define enhancements and requirements for enriching the user experience. Utilizing user research, you will productize user needs into a compelling product vision through branding, high-fidelity mock-ups, personas, user journeys, and storyboards to gain user and organizational consensus. Your work will involve organizing information to understand human behavior as it relates to projects and creating interactive experiences that engage users. Collaboration with users, business analysts, and developers will be key as you create concepts, iterate, and test the application in a highly dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Blend user experience (UX) skills and front-end development to modernize existing User Interface screens.
  • Ensure new screens are usable, stable, and attractive to the end user, focusing on branding, design, usability, and function.
  • Apply design thinking methodology to reimagine complex business workflows and develop UI and business process designs.
  • Study and evaluate user interactions with the system, focusing on ease of use, value perception, utility, and task efficiency.
  • Lead user meetings to define enhancements and requirements for enriching user experience.
  • Utilize user research to create a compelling product vision through branding, high-fidelity mock-ups, personas, user journeys, and storyboards.
  • Organize information to understand human behavior related to projects and create engaging interactive experiences.
  • Collaborate with users, business analysts, and developers to create concepts, iterate, and test the application.

Requirements

  • Five years or more experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.
  • Portfolio of design projects for review.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead discussions with end users and business leads.
  • Experience in wireframe tools (e.g., wireframe.cc, InVision).
  • Expertise in using design tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Experience using Open-Source UI Components Libraries and Angular/React Templates to design UI screens and produce functional HTML outputs.
  • Experience working in a distributed and remote team environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) for Federal Government.
  • Experience in Fluent UI or MaterialUI - library and theme.
