About the position

The UT GEAR UP All In Site Coordinator will support GEAR UP cohort students in their journey towards college readiness and admission. This role involves collaboration with middle and high school staff to provide academic counseling, mentoring, and assistance with college admissions and financial aid processes. The coordinator will also organize college awareness activities and work directly with students, families, and educators to promote college aspirations and success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic enrichment, informational, and motivational opportunities for GEAR UP cohort students, including mentoring and tutoring.
  • Monitor student grades, attendance, and transcripts to promote on-time graduation and completion of rigorous coursework.
  • Assess academic and personal needs of GEAR UP students through evaluations and interviews.
  • Collaborate with school teams to develop and implement service plans for students' specific needs.
  • Maintain student information and progress records using a caseload management approach.
  • Organize group events to encourage college consideration and application among students and families.
  • Provide one-on-one admissions and financial aid advice to GEAR UP cohort students and their families.
  • Recruit, train, and lead tutors, mentors, and volunteers for the GEAR UP program.
  • Perform administrative duties in support of the GEAR UP grant, including documentation and outreach materials.
  • Establish productive relationships with school staff to adapt programs to meet student needs.
  • Assist other UT GEAR UP Site Coordinators in coordinating events and services.
  • Assist in assessing and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the program.
  • Maintain expertise in college knowledge and readiness through professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, child development, education, public administration, or related field.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • In-depth knowledge of secondary education requirements in Texas.
  • Knowledge of postsecondary education options and application procedures.
  • Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship opportunities, including FAFSA processes.
  • Strong ability to communicate with students, parents, and school staff, both verbally and in writing.
  • Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish) fluency/knowledge preferred.
