About the position

The Utilities Coordinator manages and coordinates the relocation and installation of wet utilities, including watermain, sanitary sewer, and stormwater sewer systems. Supervises engineering and construction activities to ensure compliance with project and city standards. Also, prepares accurate cost estimates, tracks project documentation, and oversees Subsurface Utility Engineering investigations and Condition Surveys.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage relocations and installations of wet utilities, including watermain, sanitary sewer, stormwater sewer relocation and protection.
  • Supervise engineering and construction activities, ensuring compliance with established project and city standards/specs.
  • Collaborate with design teams to review project designs for utility-related compliance with Utility Asset Owner and Utility Authority standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with internal teams, external consultants, and municipal agencies to ensure alignment on project goals and utility integration.
  • Assist in formulating contractual strategies to enable smooth utility relocations and effectively incorporate utility work within construction contracts.
  • Conduct analytical reviews of relocation and protection costs/risks, advising project staff on necessary resolutions and compliance requirements related to utility agreements.
  • Contribute to the development of comprehensive construction plans, overseeing subcontractor activities to ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Prepare accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates for utility-related work.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance productivity; monitor subcontractor performance to ensure project plans and schedules are met.
  • Track and collect essential documentation for additional work, submittals, and billing backup, as well as monitor project schedule activity, including milestones.
  • Oversee Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations and conduct Condition Surveys.
  • Perform additional administrative or project-related tasks as assigned, with occasional weekend and night work required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Municipal Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent college diploma will also be considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience in preparing technical drawings and reports related to utility projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, familiarity with GIS and other digital tools is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities.
  • A collaborative mindset with a proactive approach to teamwork and problem solving.
  • A confident and positive demeanor, adaptable to change and challenges.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with City of Toronto Specifications and standards for Wet Utilities is an asset.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and/or P6 Scheduling Software is an asset.
