About the position

The Utilities Engineer for Electrical Systems and Power Distribution at RED-Rochester plays a crucial role in overseeing the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the electrical distribution systems within the Eastman Business Park microgrid. This position serves as the senior technical resource, providing guidance and support for various electrical systems, ensuring reliability and compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and maintenance of a long-range strategic master plan for the electrical distribution system.
• Provide technical direction for medium voltage distribution equipment, substations, transformers, switchgear, and motors.
• Conduct power systems analysis including load flow, voltage drop, and short circuit studies.
• Perform power quality analysis related to harmonics and system disturbances.
• Manage projects and provide electrical engineering support for both RED-originated and customer-driven projects.
• Coordinate with NYISO for generator modeling and technical requests.
• Interface with local utility for operational coordination and changes to utility interconnects.
• Assist in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of low and medium voltage systems.
• Provide electrical engineering assistance for building systems including HVAC, lighting, and security systems.
• Guide the EHS group on electrical safety compliance with NFPA standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in engineering, construction, and design of power plants and energy-intensive industrial processes.
• Proficient in MS Office and familiar with Bluebeam Revu, Navisworks, AutoDesk/AutoCAD, and Maximo.
• New York State PE License is expected for this position.
• Strong technical knowledge in Low and Medium voltage systems.
