About the position

The Utilities Operations and Maintenance Supervisor for the Drainage Collection division is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operation of the City's drainage collection systems and the Underground Service Alert (USA) program. This role involves managing personnel and equipment to ensure effective drainage runoff, water quality, and utility location, while adhering to regulatory requirements and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate personnel responsible for maintaining the City's drainage collection systems.
  • Supervise the construction, maintenance, and repair of water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains.
  • Estimate quantities and order materials and equipment needed for operations.
  • Maintain records of work time, equipment, and materials; prepare reports on work performed.
  • Inspect ongoing work and assist crews in resolving difficult problems.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, certification, and training requirements.
  • Work with contractors to ensure proper connections to water, sewer, and drainage systems.
  • Coordinate with other utilities and crews for efficient operations.
  • Assist in budget preparation and administration.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three years of experience as a Utilities Operations and Maintenance Leadworker in the City of Sacramento, including two years in a specialized area (water, wastewater, or drainage).
  • Six years of experience in supervisory or lead worker roles in underground installation, construction, or repair of water distribution, sewer, or drainage systems.
  • Possession of a valid California Class B Driver License with appropriate endorsements.
  • Possession of a Water Distribution Operator Grade III Certificate or higher.
