About the position

The Utilities Operations Compliance Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to the Wastewater Treatment and Water Treatment Facilities. This role involves tracking and enforcing compliance with regulatory agencies, laws, and regulations, while advising operations staff on sampling and reporting deadlines. The coordinator ensures that all facilities meet or exceed compliance standards set by local, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and monitor all wastewater/water utility environmental compliance activities.
  • Provide communication, documentation, and reporting to all regulatory agencies, including tracking permit requirements and regulations.
  • Develop and present complex compliance reports and sampling plans.
  • Gather information to assist in the preparation of studies and reports related to water and wastewater system performance.
  • Provide technical assistance in the analysis and investigation of excursions or exceedances of waste discharge requirements.
  • Ensure all wastewater and water utility permits and reports are compliant and submitted timely to the appropriate regulatory agency.
  • Monitor and inspect special programs for compliance, such as cross connection control and reclaimed water systems.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accurate filing systems for environmental records and monitoring reports.
  • Lead investigations, recommend corrective actions, and maintain investigation records.
  • Research and recommend changes to existing policies and procedures related to regulatory compliance.
  • Plan, develop, and implement policies and procedures related to regulatory compliance.
  • Collect sampling and surveys; write reports and chronologies.
  • Facilitate compliance with all laws and regulations, ensuring accurate documentation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in water and wastewater utility compliance operations or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • A State of Florida Water and/or Wastewater Operator's License - Class C is preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, local guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations regarding water and sewer utility systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater operation and maintenance processes and controls.
  • Must be computer literate and capable of using a computer-based preventative maintenance program.
  • Ability to work safely and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful conditions.
  • Ability to establish written guidelines and sampling plans for water and wastewater operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • A dual license in both Water and Wastewater Operations is preferred.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.
