About the position

The Utilities Operations Programmer at Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. is responsible for operating, maintaining, and updating the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and other networking telecommunication and telemetry equipment. This role ensures the efficient and secure transmission of plant information from field devices to servers and workstations, while also developing and implementing software applications to enhance operational capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and update the SCADA system and PLCs.
• Test, write, configure, and implement new applications of purchased software and system programs.
• Translate software programs when necessary.
• Maintain network, telecommunication, and telemetry equipment/hardware responsible for data transmission.
• Develop changes in software and hardware based on legal requirements.
• Update users on program changes and provide necessary training.
• Assist plant operators and maintenance personnel with PLCs and PCs.
• Maintain and update equipment responsible for plant records and trends.
• Check and debug programs.
• Collaborate with Electricians and Instrumentation Technicians to maintain process control system integrity.

Requirements

• Valid Florida Driver's License.
• Experience with PLCs and SCADA Systems.
• Experience with Windows server, system virtualization, and server platform management.
• Experience in Water or Wastewater Plant Operations.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, computer programming, or a related field.
• Four years of experience in network hardware and infrastructure, programming, and troubleshooting.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of common networking architecture, principles, and protocols such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, Trunk Lines, and Network Rings.
• Knowledge of industrial type networks like EtherNet/IP, ControlNET, DeviceNET, Modbus, and DNP3.
• Ability to configure and program SyTech XLReporter or custom software for data extraction and reporting.
• Ability to integrate security equipment into the plant's security network.
• Ability to use test equipment for maintenance and troubleshooting.
