About the position

The Utilities Permitting Technician is responsible for customer service and technical work related to processing applications for water and wastewater services for residential and commercial projects. This role involves providing first-level support to customers, maintaining complex records, and performing administrative and financial activities while ensuring compliance with permitting requirements and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the permitting liaison between various departments and agencies for water and wastewater service applications.
• Process applications for water and wastewater service, including collecting fees and releasing building permits.
• Advise customers on how to apply for and permit service request applications via phone, email, and in-person.
• Review and approve applications and plumbing plans for remodel and finish projects.
• Research and approve documents for permitting requirements, including state and city permits.
• Maintain and update the department's service request database and project files.
• Assist customers, engineers, and developers with atlas and as-built information for proposed projects.
• Prepare and mail FDEP applications for in-house projects and verify data accuracy.
• Perform various support duties, including receiving plans and serving as receptionist.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school.
• One year of administrative or technical experience in drafting, surveying, plans review, or other construction technology, including permit processing.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and applications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
