About the position

The Utilities Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing water treatment processes and supervising plant operations staff at various water treatment plants within the City of Oklahoma City. This role requires a thorough understanding of water treatment operations, safety procedures, and supervisory techniques. The supervisor will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, manage the delivery of potable water, and maintain effective operations while adhering to health and environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and supervise all water treatment processes, equipment, facilities, and employees during shifts.
  • Assign and schedule work for plant operations staff.
  • Provide verbal instruction and physical demonstrations of facility and equipment operations and safety procedures.
  • Train and supervise operations personnel.
  • Collect samples and perform laboratory tests in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure laboratory tests are accurately recorded and compliant with regulations.
  • Optimize treatment processes and monitor chemical usage.
  • Calibrate and inspect equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Manage water flow through plant processes to deliver potable water under adequate pressure.
  • Report data requiring intermediate level mathematical calculations and computer skills.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of water treatment operations and processes.
  • Skill in applying appropriate safety procedures.
  • Experience in supervisory techniques and methods.
  • Ability to collect samples and perform standard laboratory tests.
  • Skill in operating and calibrating water treatment equipment and machinery.
  • Strong communication skills in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to make work-related decisions and establish effective working relationships.
  • Possession of a Class 'A' Oklahoma State Water Operator License for Water Processes.
  • Possession of a Class 'B' Oklahoma State Water Laboratory Operator License for Drinking Water.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years' experience in supervision.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements.
  • Skill in using Microsoft software (XP, Excel, Word, Access, SAP).
