About the position

The Utilities Technician at SAFEbuilt is responsible for the repair and maintenance of the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This role requires a dynamic and motivated individual who can work flexibly, including emergency service for water and force main breaks. The technician will be part of a respected team, utilizing a variety of resources to ensure the effective operation of the city's utilities infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  • Provide 24-hour, 7-day emergency service for water and force main breaks and disaster situations.
  • Inspect and perform repairs, replacement, and maintenance of water, wastewater, and lift station equipment including pipes, valves, pumps, and meters.
  • Monitor all lift stations citywide on a daily basis.
  • Analyze runtime reports and performance graphs to diagnose problems and prevent failures.
  • Respond to system alarms and work with contractors on hardware and software maintenance issues.
  • Inspect work completed by contractors and vendors involved in the operations and maintenance of the City's infrastructure.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance activities with contractors as needed.
  • Operate emergency generators for lift stations.
  • Take proper safety precautions and report all accidents and damage to City property.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order systems and assigned tasks.
  • Participate in the training of new water and wastewater employees.
  • Perform assignments during Emergency Operations per the City's National Incident Management System (NIMS).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of operations experience in the Public Works arena working with water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Water Distribution System Operator License - Level 3 or higher is preferred.
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems component and maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater health regulations concerning public safety.
  • Skills in reading maps and prints.
  • Ability to perform and oversee complex maintenance duties and operate related equipment.
  • Knowledge of work order software (CMMS) is beneficial.
  • Ability to read and understand operations and maintenance manuals, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain required NIMS certifications (IS-700, ICS-100, ICS-200).
