About the position

The Utilities Water Pollution Control (WPC) Operator I Trainee, I, II, & III positions are responsible for the operation and maintenance of water pollution control plants within Polk County Utilities. This role involves routine mechanical and manual work, ensuring the effective treatment of wastewater and the maintenance of related equipment. Operators will be involved in sampling, testing, and performing daily operational functions to maintain compliance with environmental regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain pumping equipment with mechanical and automatic controls.
  • Read meters and charts accurately.
  • Perform daily visits to plants for maintenance and operational controls.
  • Take wastewater samples and conduct routine tests.
  • Perform custodial and maintenance work in the care of plant and grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to secure a Florida driver's license.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and operations.
  • Ability to read meters and maintain records of operations.
  • Physical strength and agility to perform labor tasks in various weather conditions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in wastewater treatment operations.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations governing wastewater treatment facilities.
