The Utility Assistant position at Alabama Power involves a variety of essential duties that support the operations of the Power Delivery Division. The position is based in various locations across Alabama, including Field Operations and the Materials Distribution Center in Calera, AL, with job locations varying depending on the specific opening available. Candidates for this position should be prepared for a dynamic work environment where they will be required to operate heavy equipment and work at elevated heights. Effective communication skills are essential, as the role involves collaboration with team members and other departments. The Utility Assistant must be able to carry out job assignments with minimal supervision and demonstrate a commitment to safety and operational efficiency. Additionally, candidates will need to qualify on the Craft, Knowledge, and Skills (CK&S) materialman test within the first nine months of employment. The position offers a starting pay of $21.80 per hour, with the potential for overtime and two raises per year based on performance. Responsibilities

  • Stocking materials in the distribution center.
  • Receiving incoming shipments and verifying contents.
  • Picking and loading materials for distribution.
  • Packaging materials for shipping.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the work area.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Distribution Center or warehousing environment, including forklift operation, is highly preferred.
  • Experience using mechanical equipment such as bobcats and scissor lifts is desired.
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights as required by the job.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must qualify on the Craft, Knowledge, and Skills (CK&S) materialman test within the first 9 months of employment.
  • Must weigh no more than 285 pounds (fully dressed including steel-toed work boots) due to the nature of the work.
