About the position
This position is located in the Water Services System Services Division and is responsible for operating the backhoe and/or trackhoe used in digging, drilling, paving, dredging ditches, or transporting materials as assigned. This position will also be required to perform physical labor assist with all kinds of repairs. This recruitment will be used to fill multiple positions. Incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. The work environment involves moderate risks or discomforts associated with vehicle/equipment maintenance. These include working in extreme temperatures, working around potentially dangerous equipment, moving parts, carts, or machines, working around grease and oil, and so forth. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
Responsibilities
- Operates the backhoe and/or trackhoe powered equipment under transport or construction conditions.
- Checks vehicle or equipment for daily maintenance before its operation.
- May spread materials, load trucks, prepare subgrades, excavate trenches, resurface streets, perform finish grading, and transport materials.
- Participates in a variety of construction and maintenance projects.
- May lead work of other employees.
- Maintains and operates equipment and tools.
- Ensures employees are equipped with proper tools and equipment.
Requirements
- Eighth (8th) grade education.
- Three (3) years of construction-related experience including one (1) year operating a backhoe and/or trackhoe.
- Valid 'Class A' Commercial Driver License.
- Candidates must be able to successfully demonstrate competence operating required equipment in accordance with the targeting criteria.
