About the position

The Water Distribution Operator is responsible for performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work related to the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of the Town's water facilities and systems. This role involves repairing water mains, installing pipelines, conducting inspections, and assisting with various water distribution tasks, ensuring the efficient operation of the water supply system for the Town of Plainfield.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs non-emergency and emergency water mains, services, and water hydrant leaks.
  • Installs and maintains all types and sizes of pipeline mains, services, fittings, hydrant valves, meter pits, water meters, and sample stations.
  • Raises, lowers, removes, and relocates water mains, fire hydrant services, service boxes, and valve boxes.
  • Conducts inspections, completes reports, updates records, and operates equipment.
  • Assists the Water Distribution Crew Leader with hydrant flushing/testing, hydrant painting, installing new water services, and repairing water main breaks.
  • Contacts Indiana 811 before digging and locates water lines for Indiana Underground Plant Protection Service (IUPPS).
  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance.
  • Assists other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • Distribution System Large (Class DSL) certification required within 1 year.
  • Ability to use specialized tools and equipment related to water distribution.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic knowledge of modern water distribution processes.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish.
