About the position

The Utility Worker I/II/III position at Fallbrook Public Utility District involves performing a variety of construction and maintenance tasks related to potable, recycled, and wastewater services. The role encompasses entry-level to skilled work, including the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of water mains, service lines, and wastewater systems. The position offers opportunities for on-the-job training and advancement based on skills and qualifications, with three levels available depending on experience and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of water mains and service lines.
  • Inspect and maintain wastewater systems including lift stations and sewer lines.
  • Read, record, and report water meter usage and perform basic meter repairs.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries regarding water usage and meters.
  • Assist in the training of new personnel and provide on-the-job training to co-workers.
  • Operate light to heavy construction equipment as required.
  • Perform routine grounds maintenance and custodial duties.
  • Conduct inspections and maintenance of equipment, tanks, and structures.
  • Monitor and respond to lift station and sanitary overflow prevention alarms.
  • Perform welding repairs on pipelines and maintain welding equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CDL Class C driver's license for Utility Worker I; CDL Class A/B for Utility Worker II and III.
  • Forklift Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Traffic Control Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Water Distribution Certification - SWRCB Grade DI for Utility Worker I; Grade II for Utility Worker II; Grade III for Utility Worker III.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience for Utility Worker I; 2 years for Utility Worker II; 3 years for Utility Worker III.
