About the position
The Utility Worker I position at the City of Fort Stockton involves operating light equipment and participating in various activities related to street maintenance, drainage, repair, and construction. The role requires physical labor and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions while ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operate vehicles and equipment such as tractors, shredders, loaders, rollers, bucket trucks, and wood chippers.
- Perform cleaning, washing, preventative maintenance, and servicing of equipment.
- Read and understand written job instructions and plans.
- Write reports by hand and communicate verbally with citizens.
- Perform daily operations and maintenance on water and gas production and distribution systems, as well as sanitary sewer collection and treatment facilities.
- Lift and carry up to 100 pounds and pull, push, or drag up to 150 pounds of repair equipment.
- Climb, crawl, kneel, squat, stoop, and bend freely when driving or participating in repairs or reading meters.
- Drive and operate residential and commercial refuse trucks on assigned collection routes and load refuse by hand.
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures and perform 2-way radio communication.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Texas Driver's License required.
