About the position

The Office of Institutional Research & Assessment (OIRA) at NC State University is seeking a temporary Web Designer/Developer with expertise in WordPress. The primary goal of this position is to revamp the OIRA website template and migrate existing content into the new design, ensuring compliance with digital accessibility standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of web design principles and be able to demonstrate previous work in this area.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with OIRA staff and potentially other design and content specialists on campus to understand project requirements and recommend technical solutions.
  • Prepare website design proposals for review by OIRA staff.
  • Customize WordPress templates to enhance the functionality and appearance of our website.
  • Implement responsive design principles to ensure the website renders OIRA content well across multiple devices.
  • Ensure the website meets UNC-Chapel Hill digital accessibility standards and implement best practices for digital accessibility.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Web designer/developer with expertise in WordPress development.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS.
  • Familiarity with digital accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Experience customizing WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Knowledge of responsive design principles and mobile-first strategies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve website issues quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of UX/UI design principles.
  • Knowledge of website performance optimization techniques.
  • Certification in web development or related field is a plus.
