About the position

The UX Content Designer will be responsible for creating user-focused digital experiences for an international automobile manufacturer. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to design, write, edit, and test in-product content across multiple platforms, ensuring clarity and accessibility for users. The position is based in Torrance, CA, with potential for remote flexibility, and is initially a 12-month contract with the possibility of conversion to a full-time role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead content design for key program areas, becoming an expert on features, functionality, business objectives, and customer content needs.
  • Collaborate with UX designers from project initiation through delivery, iterating on content and user flows.
  • Conduct content discovery, including inventories, audits, and competitive research.
  • Organize content to enhance discovery and accessibility.
  • Write clear, accessible content such as tooltips, help text, navigation labels, dialogs, and onboarding flows.
  • Determine when research is necessary and leverage insights to inform content strategy.
  • Test, evaluate, and improve content by collaborating with UX researchers using analytics, customer data, A/B testing, and usability testing.
  • Participate in content discovery workshops, surveys, and interviews alongside UX designers and researchers.
  • Present well-reasoned content design decisions, advocating for user needs and fostering empathy across teams.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Journalism, Communications, Research, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong collaboration skills with an open and curious mindset.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a solid understanding of grammar and mechanics.
  • Ability to align content with brand voice and tone.
  • Experience with design tools, especially Figma.
  • Proficiency in design thinking and human-centered design, including workshop facilitation.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work through ambiguity.
  • Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear, user-centered content.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting UX content style guide development.
  • Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2) and a commitment to inclusive, accessible content design.
  • Experience working in agile development environments, including design sprints and using Jira for task management and user stories.
