About the position

The Senior Designer - UX will play a pivotal role in leading the design and definition as a key contributor to United's Core UX team, specifically within the Travel MBT. This position is responsible for integrating human-centered practices to unpack and enhance the digital customer experience across all stages of the travel journey. The Core UX team is instrumental in defining United's digital product strategy and providing the necessary leadership to execute that strategy with the support of cross-functional mission-based teams. We are seeking an empathic, passionate, and curious designer who celebrates delivering high-quality solutions and thrives on innovation in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in UX design, particularly in creating micro-interactions, and will possess a robust mobile app experience along with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Visualize ideas using professional design tools as well as sticky notes, sketch boards, and whiteboard markers to rapidly work through ideation and move to the next stage.
  • Initiate and respond to ideas for innovation/improvements based on research, analysis, and competitive reviews.
  • Identify user needs and business requirements.
  • Substantiate design approach with analysis & projections for improvements.
  • Ensure digital customer touch points remain consistent with United's user experience and brand standards.
  • Develop intuitive, usable, and engaging interactions.
  • Drive the design of next generation navigation schemes, patterns, components, and templates across the company's products, ensuring a consistent, appealing, and dynamic customer experience.
  • Create low and high fidelity interactive prototypes adhering to a rapid, iterative, and collaborative process.
  • Work with usability researchers to design test plans and iterate designs throughout user testing, translating usability research findings into design improvements.
  • Create final design deliverables through appropriately detailed design specifications including process flows, wireframes, storyboards, high and low fidelity mockups, red-lines, and prototypes.
  • Present design work to the user experience team, product team, and executives for review and feedback.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and business partners throughout the design process.
  • Communicate harmoniously with multiple stakeholders to synthesize, review design project progress, and incorporate feedback appropriately with a user-centered focus.
  • Respond to day-to-day questions from developers, product managers, and project managers during the implementation phase.
  • Work with QA to identify, document, and verify bug fixes.
  • Provide guidance and mentor junior designers.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent work experience required.
  • 5+ years professional UX design experience required.
  • Solid grasp of web design principles and a good understanding of front-end web technologies required.
  • Excellent understanding of user experience design for the Web, mobile, and touch devices required.
  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks in a fast-paced atmosphere with minimal supervision required.
  • Experience in writing detailed design specifications (IA, workflow, page functionality and layout, etc.) which technology developers use to build the product required.
  • Must be a self-starter that can create schedules and define scope of work even when there are no clear requirements and direction required.
  • Strong ability to communicate your design, defend your design decisions, and respond quickly to business needs required.
  • Proven ability to set the design direction for your projects and to collaborate with other designers working in the space required.
  • A team player who can easily adapt in a rapidly changing environment required.
