About the position

The UX Researcher will play a critical role in delivering technical expertise in areas such as cognition, perception, biomechanics, and ergonomics, specifically in the context of hardware product development. This position involves conducting applied research to inform product design and strategy, ensuring that user insights translate into actionable recommendations that enhance the user experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with a focus on driving measurable positive impacts on product outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Define and establish cognitive, perceptual, and ergonomic insights and frameworks to understand tradeoffs across business, experience, and technology workstreams.
  • Conduct research using qualitative and some quantitative methods to create actionable insights throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Work closely with partners in hardware engineering, industrial design, product management, and privacy & security to clarify the user problem space.
  • Effectively communicate and present research findings to various audiences, including product teams and executive leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience in user experience, applied research, and/or product research and development, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in user experience and applied research settings.
  • Interest in and experience executing hands-on, primary research.
  • Experience translating research findings into strategic narratives.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in relevant Human Factors and behavioral research areas such as cognitive science, HCI, industrial engineering, biomedical engineering, perceptual psychology, kinematics & biomechanics, or related fields.
  • Experience shipping consumer and wearable devices.
  • Experience combining qualitative and quantitative user data into cohesive insights.
  • Experience with wearable devices and inward/outward facing sensing technologies (e.g., eye-tracking, EMG, SLAM).
  • Experience with experimental methodology, inferential statistics and modeling, kinematics analysis, EMG, EEG, eye-tracking, and other approaches to measuring human performance.
