About the position

The UX Researcher position at INSPYR Solutions is a contract role based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically in offices located in Menlo Park, Burlingame, and Sunnyvale. This role is part of a cutting-edge research team focused on developing technologies for virtual and augmented reality, aiming to create experiences that are as essential as smartphones and personal computers. The team is dedicated to advancing the future of human interaction through innovative audio technologies that enhance communication in challenging environments. The UX Researcher will play a crucial role in this initiative by conducting research studies that involve human subjects, focusing on understanding user experiences and perceptions in relation to audio technologies. As a senior-level UX Researcher, the individual will be responsible for the entire research process, from experimental design to data collection and analysis. This includes setting up and implementing both in-person and remote studies, analyzing the collected data, and generating comprehensive reports that provide insights and recommendations for both the research and product teams. The position requires a strong background in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, as well as experience in human-subject research, particularly in the context of audio and communication technologies. The ideal candidate will have a passion for understanding user needs and behaviors, particularly in the context of emerging technologies. They will work closely with a diverse team of researchers, developers, and engineers to push the boundaries of what is possible in virtual and augmented reality, ultimately contributing to the development of products that redefine human communication and interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research studies with human subjects, both in-person and remotely.
  • Set up, implement, and collect data for research studies.
  • Drive research studies by owning experimental design and conducting user studies.
  • Analyze data collected from research studies and create reports with findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with research and product teams to inform product development based on research insights.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of industry experience with qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's or higher education preferred.
  • Coursework or lab experience in speech perception/production, psycholinguistics, hearing science, language-focused cognitive psychology, auditory neuroscience, social science, psychology, or similar fields.
  • Experience with hardware products, preferably consumer electronics or wearable devices.
  • Human-subject research experience is essential.
  • Experience with data analysis and programming languages such as R, Python, or SQL is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the field of auditory neuroscience or hearing science.
  • Familiarity with user experience design principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of virtual and augmented reality technologies.
