About the position

The UX Web Designer & Developer at the University of Illinois Chicago will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a comprehensive web communications strategy for the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. This role involves overseeing web content quality, consistency, accessibility, and branding across various departmental websites, while collaborating with internal teams and external consultants to enhance user experience and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees website management content and design guidelines for all websites across the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
  • Coordinates with an external consulting firm and the UIC web content management systems team to optimize approaches, outcomes, and efficiency.
  • Designs and manages improvements to the web content management system to enhance the end-user experience and content manager capabilities.
  • Oversees the work of content managers and web staff across all units within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
  • Provides web content management and website hosting technical support as needed.
  • Collaborates closely with SaTech to align data and content sharing across the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations, maintenance, and content development on the website; coordinates technical development efforts to support content and graphic requirements.
  • Monitors, measures, and evaluates website effectiveness, making recommendations for improvements to support the Student Affairs mission.
  • Oversees governance structure and site access for content authors; ensures quality control for site content across the Student Affairs division.
  • Ensures adherence to branding standards and guidelines across the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs websites.
  • Assists with marketing-related web communications initiatives, such as Google Analytics and search engine optimization.
  • Evaluates competitor websites to adopt best practices and enhance the Student Affairs websites' impact.
  • Manages day-to-day office operations, including interviewing, hiring, orienting, leading, mentoring, and evaluating staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of professional IT experience in IT Development, including experience in developing and/or modifying applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Full Stack Development including UX UI Design, front end and backend web development.
  • Prior experience using design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision.
  • Prior experience with UX design, including conducting user research and UX testing.
  • Prior experience developing wireframes and prototypes.
  • Prior experience with adaptive design for multiple devices (desktop, mobile, tablets).
