About the position

Maryville University is seeking a motivated and creative UX and Web Designer to enhance the user experience across its digital platforms. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the University's digital presence is accessible, engaging, and effective in communicating with a diverse audience of online and on-campus students, faculty, and alumni.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of user interfaces for digital properties including websites, mobile apps, and interactive tools.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Brand Activation to ensure designs align with brand standards and communication strategy.
  • Participate in user research discussions to understand needs and behaviors, supporting key findings to inform design decisions.
  • Create user flows, wireframes, and prototypes to communicate design concepts.
  • Optimize web pages for performance and maintain websites with regular updates.
  • Ensure designs function across various browsers and devices, maintaining high-quality graphic standards and brand consistency.
  • Collaborate with content creators to integrate visual design with content strategy.
  • Participate in design reviews and share ideas and feedback with team members.
  • Track latest trends in UX and incorporate them into operations to enhance user experience.
  • Review digital assets for compliance with WCAG AA accessibility standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field, or proven years of experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in UX design, including internships or academic projects.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in web design, including internships or academic projects.
  • Proficiency in UX design software such as Sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, or similar tools.
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and the capabilities and limitations of web technologies.
  • Knowledge of WordPress and themes with a page builder such as Salient.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data-driven UX design and tools for analytics.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices for inclusive design.
  • Experience in Salesforce platforms, including Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other visual design tools.
