About the position

As a UX Writer and Content Designer at Google, you will play a pivotal role in shaping product experiences by creating meaningful text that assists users in completing tasks. In your capacity as a UX Writer and Content Designer, you will support the Gemini UX team by writing and editing content that is fact-based and user-safe. Your collaboration with diverse job functions will require you to exhibit professional etiquette, organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail. You will be responsible for designing intuitive and delightful product experiences that empower users to achieve their goals. As a content strategist, you will define product outlooks and narratives across multiple platforms and touchpoints, driving guidelines and best practices while managing complex, cross-functional projects. Working closely with leadership, you will set goals and implement roadmaps, providing direction and mentorship to writers and support to peers. User experience is central to how Google creates intuitive, innovative, and aesthetically pleasing products that resonate with users. Responsibilities

  • Use writing and content design skills to create UI text that facilitates user navigation, onboarding, promos, error messages, instructional materials, and other components of the user experience.
  • Drive outlook for product language and content across a product or subject-matter domain, ensuring cohesive product narratives.
  • Document strategies with guidelines, establishing best practices and strategy principles.
  • Manage projects from needs assessment to implementation, identifying opportunities, establishing priorities, securing resources, and managing stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, legal, marketing, product managers, and engineers, influencing and adapting to stakeholder feedback.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship to junior UX writers, educating cross-functional partners on the role of UX writing and content strategy throughout the product development process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Literature, Business, Marketing, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in writing, editorial, marketing, UX writing, content design, or related fields, including leading content strategy projects.
  • Experience in UX-focused product writing and shaping content for multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Portfolio highlighting UX-focused writing samples and style guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of experience interacting with executive leadership.
  • 2 years of writing, editorial, marketing, or UX writing experience in an agency setting.
  • 2 years of experience working in a complex, cross-functional technology organization.
  • Experience developing information architecture for complex documentation sets or product suites, including localization and accessibility best practices.
  • Knowledge or experience with Generative AI technology.
  • Familiarity with user experience research principles and practices and how to use data to provide informed user insights.
