About the position

The Vac Truck Operator is responsible for the safe operation and transportation of vacuum trucks and associated equipment to complete various job requirements. This role primarily focuses on Vac Truck operations, but flexibility to assist with other duties is essential for project completion. The operator must prioritize health and safety, adhere to regulations, and maintain equipment effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
  • Performs industrial tank cleaning response.
  • Operates and drives equipment in support of the customer and employees engaged in high pressure and material transfers.
  • Conducts waste pick up and product transfer as requested.
  • Responsible for loading and offloading their load.
  • Assists in emergency situations.
  • Maintains all mobile and stationary equipment by performing preventive maintenance and documenting all activity performed.
  • Ensures equipment compliance with safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Fills out paperwork and communicates effectively.
  • Follows local and federal DOT Regulations while operating the truck.
  • Ensures proper loading and unloading of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Adheres to weight limits and ensures proper utilization of company equipment.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures, Health and Safety procedures, and Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to operate a standard transmission.
  • Must be able to pass respirator fit testing.
  • Willingness to work day or night shifts/overtime hours during the week or weekends.
  • Pass DOT Physical.
  • Two (2) years of industrial vacuum truck experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local and federal DOT regulations.
  • Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's driver license.
  • Must have a current Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Must have CDL license (hazmat endorsement must be obtained within 60 days of employment).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably verbally and in writing in English, using good business grammar.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and non-technical material from various sources.
  • Ability to organize work and handle multiple tasks and assignments while meeting deadlines.
  • Effective listening skills and ability to answer questions understandably.
  • Ability to perform independently with general supervisor guidance.
  • Ability to accept supervision and direction as needed.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
