About the position

The Vaccine Manufacturing Operations Technician position at Merck Sharp & Dohme in Durham, NC, is a full-time role focused on supporting the vaccine manufacturing process. The technician will engage in hands-on processing activities, ensuring adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and executing aseptic processing requirements. This role is essential for transitioning into commercial production and involves collaboration with various operations and support personnel to meet departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with operations and support personnel to perform manual and automated processing of vaccine manufacturing equipment.
  • Execute documentation and clerical functions for product accountability and traceability.
  • Maintain, inventory, and transport processing equipment, materials, supplies, and products.
  • Operate computer-controlled process support equipment such as washers and autoclaves.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Perform housekeeping and execute facility sanitization and decontamination procedures.
  • Complete in-process testing and inspections for vaccine manufacturing and validation processes.
  • Identify and address compliance, environmental, safety, and process deviations, escalating as necessary.
  • Schedule and perform environmental monitoring during processing and record results in the computerized database system.
  • Deliver samples and materials to appropriate laboratories, coordinating with Quality and Logistics as needed.
  • Participate in safety, quality, and operational training initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree in Life Science or Engineering preferred.
  • Previous experience in pharmaceuticals or related manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Ability to successfully gown into C/D graded spaces.
  • Willingness and ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and climbing ladders.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy (internet browsers, e-mail, word processing) is required.
  • Successful completion of TB titer and Chest X-ray is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science or Engineering.
  • Associate's degree in Life Science or Engineering with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • BioWorks Certificate (working in an FDA regulated industry).
  • Experience utilizing System Applications and Products in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in the use of Electronic Batch Records.
  • Experience performing Environmental Monitoring and Sampling.
