About the position

The Valuation Analyst position at the Utah State Tax Commission offers an opportunity to serve the public while working in a fast-paced environment. This role involves appraising and auditing various companies under the guidance of a Certified General Appraiser, providing on-the-job training for new hires and appraiser trainees. The position allows for flexible work schedules and remote work options, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting on-site reviews and inspections of businesses
  • Reviewing and analyzing financial data
  • Performing statistical analysis
  • Conducting audits and writing detailed audit reports
  • Assisting with the yearly property tax assessment of centrally assessed properties
  • Working with and maintaining good working relationships with county officials and their staff
  • Participating in the centrally assessed property tax appeals process, including preparing narrative appraisals and testifying as an expert witness for administrative and/or court appeal hearings
  • Assisting in the development of discount and capitalization rates
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Geoscience, Mathematics, or Chemical Engineering
  • Master's degree in Business, Geoscience, Mathematics, or Chemical Engineering
  • Must obtain and maintain a Utah Real Estate Appraisal License, including becoming a Registered Trainee Appraiser within six months of hire and passing the appraisal licensing exam within specified timeframes.
