The Van Driver position at Abilities of Northwest Jersey, Inc. involves transporting consumers with developmental disabilities to and from their day program sites. This part-time role requires adherence to safety protocols, time schedules, and effective communication with both consumers and staff. The driver will operate 15-passenger or lift-equipped vehicles, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for passengers.

Responsibilities

• Transport consumers with disabilities to and from their day program site.
• Follow designated routes and adhere to time schedules for pick-ups and drop-offs.
• Report maintenance needs and emergency breakdowns to the Fleet and Facilities Manager.
• Ensure passengers are dropped off only if a responsible party is present unless otherwise informed.
• Keep emergency information on all passengers and request it when missing.
• Comply with behavior management techniques as directed by supervisors.
• Report passenger illness, injury, or unusual behavior and complete incident reports.
• Assist passengers with boarding and de-boarding the van, including fastening seat belts.
• Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections and monitor vehicle equipment inventory.
• Record mileage and gas purchases daily and submit reports monthly.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Ability to write, comprehend, and follow instructions.
• Willingness to drive during inclement weather if directed.
• Compassionate interaction with disabled consumers.
• Free from alcohol or drugs that could impair driving ability.
• Compliance with attendance policies.
