About the position
The Vascular Access Registered Nurse (VA-RN) at Children's Mercy provides specialized services for the placement and maintenance of vascular access devices for both inpatients and outpatients. This role is crucial in ensuring patient safety by minimizing complications such as bloodstream infections and involves educating patients, families, and staff about vascular access care. The VA-RN is expected to work collaboratively within a compassionate and inclusive team, reflecting the hospital's commitment to diversity and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Provides vascular access services to inpatients and outpatients requiring specialized assistance for insertion and maintenance of vascular access devices.
- Serves as a resource for patients, families, and staff regarding the maintenance of vascular access devices to decrease the risk of complications, including bloodstream infections.
- Identifies and meets the educational needs of patients, families, and staff.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in a hospital or nursing home setting.
- Experience with insertion of PICC/midline vascular access devices and use of ultrasound guidance.
- Knowledge of CVC management and CLABSI prevention.
- Licensed RN in Kansas and/or Missouri required upon hire.
- Life Support Certifications required upon hire.
Nice-to-haves
- Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (to be obtained within one year of hire).
