About the position

The Modeling and Simulation Engineer at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) will be responsible for developing innovative vehicle control software features that enhance the dynamics, controllability, and efficiency of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles. This role involves leading the introduction of new technology, developing control algorithms, prototyping, and maintaining simulation tools for verification and validation of algorithms.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead new vehicle drive and motion control technology concepts for future vehicles.
  • Expand vehicle control capabilities in coordination with R&D Headquarters and project partners.
  • Develop prototypes and proof of concept demonstrations for new vehicle control software functions.
  • Develop and maintain simulation tools and environments for algorithm verification and calibration optimization.
  • Analyze market and vehicle data to support requirements development and improve product performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience with vehicle motion control systems and interfaces.
  • Experience using CAE based tools such as CarSim, CarMaker, GT Power, Simscape, VISSIM, or similar.
  • First principles vehicle dynamics modeling experience.
  • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet.
  • Experience in tool development using Matlab and Simulink.
  • Ability to understand and interpret C code.
  • Strong interpersonal and technical problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S./PhD in Control System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining SIL and HIL virtual development platforms.
  • Expertise in integrating various models, virtual ECUs, and third-party components into a coherent simulation platform.
  • Experience utilizing the FMI standard for the exchange of dynamic simulation models.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink modeling and simulation of plant and control systems.
  • Experience with 1-D physical modeling tools such as AVL-CRUISE or GT-SUITE.
