The Vehicle Electrical Programming Control Systems Engineer at Heil Environmental is tasked with the design, modeling, development, and testing of control systems specifically tailored for refuse collection vehicles. This role is pivotal in ensuring that these vehicles can efficiently collect, store, and process refuse as per customer requirements. The engineer will be responsible for developing functional requirements and applying standard engineering principles in accordance with Heil's engineering standards. This includes creating simulations and prototypes to evaluate preliminary designs and testing the operational capabilities of machines, structures, or systems. In addition to design responsibilities, the engineer will monitor product quality and control process efficiency, evaluate designs for overall effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety, and investigate root causes of failures to recommend improvements. The position requires collaboration across various engineering disciplines, particularly mechanical engineering, to understand the kinematics of mechanical designs. The engineer will also engage in programming and simulation of control systems, requiring proficiency in PLC logic and programming with various PLCs, as well as experience with HMI or SCADA programming. Familiarity with CODESYS, MATLAB Simulink, and various communication protocols such as CAN Bus and J1939 is essential. Compliance with government safety and environmental standards is a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that all designs meet regulatory requirements. The position also involves mentoring less experienced engineers, making strong communication and interpersonal skills vital for success.
