About the position

The Vehicle Hardware Engineer in the Systems Engineering Team (SET) at Ford Motor Company is responsible for leading systems-level sign-off for assigned commodities, collaborating with team members and external partners to ensure successful integration and delivery of vehicle programs. This role involves managing costs, optimizing systems, and driving cross-functional issue resolution to meet program milestones. The engineer will also support functional sign-off and compatibility reviews, ensuring that all aspects of the vehicle meet quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Systems level sign-off for the assigned SET Commodities
  • Collaborate/work with team members and external partners on packaging, weight, cost, quality, labor, timing, and integration from a systems perspective according to assigned vehicle area and content
  • Support functional sign-off and compatibility reviews to deliver all Program Milestones on-time
  • Support D&R's with BOM and CAD updates within new and Legacy tools
  • Drive cross-functional issue resolution (including program, finance, quality, attribute, manufacturing, STA, studio, color & materials sign off, suppliers etc.)
  • Manage total cost, content, and other attributes within the SET Zone
  • Identify opportunity areas for optimization, part reduction
  • Drive cost reduction, weight minimization, quality improvements
  • Lead the overall optimization of the system
  • Benchmarking of affected systems to drive optimization
  • Coordinate with Core Teams on system optimization opportunities and manage change
  • Drive SET Adherence to Systems Engineering Operating Principles
  • Champion trade-off decisions to balance within the VHE Function
  • Support resolution of PD build issues via AIMS, CRs, FCPA, Alerts, & other launch performance metrics for on time delivery of launch
  • Active, on-site, SPOC for program, attributes, VO, and NML teams through launch phases from LR through OKTB

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required
  • 3+ Years - Must have the knowledge of Systems Engineering Fundamental and Design Thinking
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, courage, humility, decisiveness, flexibility, knowledge, vision, communications
  • Ability to work in dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative

  • Strong technical capability and problem-solving skills
  • Fluent in English Speaking and Writing

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's in Systems Engineering or Engineering preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in product engineering design environment
  • Demonstrated Production Launch experience
  • Demonstrated experience with program management
  • Experience in exterior systems including sheet metal structures/closures, lighting, or ornamentation preferred
  • Strong fundamentals and working knowledge of the Cost Process and Functional Led Cost/Appearance Delivery Process
  • Effective coaching skills
  • Strong fundamentals and working knowledge of GPDS processes
  • Experience in internal/external toolsets including Teamcenter, 3DX, FEDEBOM and/or FEDE WORKBENCH Preferred
