About the position

The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing maintenance employees and ensuring the proper maintenance of the corporation's equipment and rolling stock. This role involves managing workflow, enforcing departmental policies, and ensuring timely completion of maintenance tasks. The supervisor will also support mechanics, manage labor relations, and ensure workplace safety.

Responsibilities

  • Determine, gather, and provide materials, parts, tools, and labor for bus vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Supervise all vehicle and equipment repairs, managing workflow and verifying repairs are completed properly.
  • Ensure timely and thorough completion of preventative and predictive maintenance, repair work, and cleaning of rolling stock and equipment.
  • Enforce departmental policies related to work schedules and personnel assignments.
  • Complete relevant paperwork and reports, ensuring all maintenance actions are documented.
  • Create and close work orders as appropriate.
  • Provide support to mechanics, answering questions and addressing complaints.
  • Manage labor relations, ensuring labor assignments comply with the current contract.
  • Accountable for safety in the workplace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal trade school or an associate degree in an automotive or engineering program or a related field is preferred.
  • Three to five years of vehicle maintenance experience and customer service experience, preferably in a union environment.
  • A valid Indiana Operators Driver's License is required; a valid Indiana Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair, including preventative maintenance and safety guidelines.
  • Operational knowledge of mandated safety principles related to personal protective equipment and general shop safety practices.
  • Knowledge of labor relations and contract negotiations.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and related technology, including Microsoft Office and complex spreadsheets.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a union environment is preferred.
