Transforming the Future with Convergence of Simulation and Data, the Vehicle Operations Specialist position at Altair Engineering in Gaithersburg, MD, is a contract role focused on ensuring the quality and readiness of vehicles for delivery. The specialist will be responsible for washing the exterior and cleaning the interior of vehicles, shuttling them to and from secondary locations, and facilitating the pre-delivery inspection process. This includes conducting cosmetic inspections, dynamic test drives, and utilizing tools such as compressed air and torque wrenches. Proficiency in computer software, particularly Microsoft Office and internal business platforms, is essential for managing quality control processes and communicating defects to the service department. The role requires maintaining the delivery readiness of vehicles and managing the inventory lot to ensure safe and usable drive lanes. The specialist will also prepare, inspect, and stage customer trade-ins for transport to auctions. Additional tasks may be assigned by the leadership team, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in various working conditions, including active service centers and unpredictable weather. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, be at least 21 years old, and have a valid driver's license. A minimum of one year of experience in operations, logistics, or lot management is required, with automotive or detailing experience being highly valued. The position demands a willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and may involve physical exertion such as standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs. Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are necessary for interpreting documents and interacting with customers and internal partners.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality standards through washing vehicles exterior and cleaning/preparing vehicles interior.
  • Shuttle vehicles to/from secondary locations including customer and fleet vehicles.
  • Facilitate vehicles through the pre-delivery inspection process, including cosmetic inspection and dynamic test drive.
  • Utilize compressed air tools and torque wrenches during inspections.
  • Conduct quality control processes for delivery-ready vehicles and manage communication of defects to the service department.
  • Maintain the delivery readiness of vehicles.
  • Manage the inventory lot, ensuring safe and usable drive lanes.
  • Prepare, inspect, and stage customer trade-ins for transport to auction via carrier.
  • Complete additional work and tasks as requested by the leadership team.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience with operations, logistics, or lot management; previous automotive, electric vehicle (EV), and/or detailing experience valued.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support customers on nights, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver's license in the state/province of residence.
  • No drug or alcohol related driving incidents in the last 3 years; No more than 1 serious moving violation in the last 3 years; No driving related suspensions or revocation of Driver License within a 3-5 year period.
  • Willingness to work in various working conditions including active service centers or unpredictable weather conditions.
  • Physical exertion may be required to perform occupational tasks.
