About the position

The Vehicle Safety Strategy Manager at Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. is responsible for leading a team of engineers focused on vehicle safety for Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis brands. This role involves developing and executing safety strategies in compliance with industry standards, managing budgets, and ensuring the team's performance aligns with corporate goals. The manager will also oversee communication with various stakeholders and lead initiatives to maintain industry leadership in vehicle safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Vehicle Safety Strategy team to meet KPIs including Program Timing, Cost & Quality Improvement, and Budget Management.
  • Develop goals and objectives for direct reports and assign tasks to support the team's work plan.
  • Manage daily activities of safety strategy engineers for Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis brands.
  • Create a data-driven roadmap for future safety requirements in compliance with IIHS, NHTSA, Latin NCAP, and CR.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure unified communication and strategy execution.
  • Oversee the nomination process for safety awards and ensure timely submissions of technical data.
  • Mentor and train team members in advanced research and methodologies for future safety requirements.
  • Manage bi-weekly reporting processes and communicate effectively with other teams within HATCI and affiliates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the automotive industry, particularly in vehicle safety.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive structure, crashworthiness, and occupant safety.
  • Expertise in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), NCAP, and IIHS safety evaluations.
  • Proficient in data analysis tools such as DIAdem, Hyperworks, and Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with testing, test equipment, and processes necessary for vehicle safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of simulation techniques for structural and occupant safety.
