About the position

As a Veteran Employment Representative (DVOP) with the Kansas Department of Commerce, you will play a vital role in supporting veterans facing significant employment challenges. This full-time position is based in Leavenworth, KS, and involves working closely with veterans to help them navigate their career paths and overcome barriers to employment. You will be responsible for delivering comprehensive case management services, which include developing and monitoring individualized employment plans tailored to the unique needs of each veteran. Your work will directly impact the lives of those who have served our country, empowering them to achieve their career goals and reintegrate into the workforce successfully. In this role, you will engage in continuous outreach to identify veterans who can benefit from your services. This may involve visiting locations such as homeless shelters and food pantries to connect with disenfranchised veterans. You will also collaborate with various workforce and veteran service partners to provide career guidance, including assistance with resume writing, interview preparation, and job retention skills. Your ability to maintain meticulous documentation of each veteran's service history and progress will be crucial in ensuring a seamless support system. The position requires a valid driver's license, as you will need to travel for outreach and case management activities. Overnight travel may also be necessary. You will represent the organization at job fairs and community events, further establishing the agency's presence and expanding its reach. Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive case management to veterans with significant barriers to employment.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation including detailed customer notes and service history.
  • Conduct outreach to identify veterans who can benefit from individualized career services.
  • Connect veterans to community resources for job placement, legal aid, housing, and financial assistance.
  • Collaborate with workforce and veteran service partners to provide career guidance.
  • Maintain close contact with customers throughout job readiness preparation and job placement.
  • Represent the organization at job fairs and community events.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Driver's License is mandatory.
  • Six months of experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring workforce-related activities or similar experience.
  • Twenty-four credit hours of post-secondary coursework may substitute for experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree with one year of related work experience preferred.
  • One year of marketing or sales experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of veterans' employment issues and related strategies is beneficial.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.
